One of the truly amazing things about poetry is how- when done well- it can condense so much into so little. Vast ideas and depths of feeling can be rendered into a small gleaming gem that is a mere handful of words long.
And so it is with today’s two poems brought to us by STSC mainstay and terminal bibliophile James Shrimpton. James does not have a Substack (which is why his name is not on the byline) but he does have a personal website as well as children’s book The King and The Dragon which brilliantly retells the story of Christ through the lens of a Knights slaying a Dragon. And it all rhymes. No mean feat, that.
So pick up that book and also check out today’s poems while you’re at it.
Enjoy.
